Remove License Plates from Cars Online (AI LaMa)

Paint over the license plate and the LaMa neural network will draw the bumper or grille in its place, without gray blur or pixelation. For car sale listings.

License plate removal
Preset

Cover the whole plate, including the frame. Include a bit of the bumper at the edge so the seam is less visible.

Drag a car photo here

Paint over the license plate and click "Remove plate". LaMa will fill in the bumper/grille, no blur.

Ready, open a car photo with a plate

Instructions

  • Upload a photo of the car where the license plate is visible.
  • Zoom into the bumper/grille area. Choose the scenario that matches the plate size.
  • Paint over the plate completely (and the frame if it's high-contrast).
  • Click "Remove plate" and LaMa will fill the area to match the bumper color.
  • This isn't blur or pixelation: the plate disappears and the background is restored.

Erase + fill, not just "covering the plate"

In car sale listings, plates are often hidden with a gray rectangle, blur, or pixels. It looks cheap and draws attention right to the plate. License plate removal on filltools.com uses LaMa inpainting: you paint over the plate, and the model draws the continuation of the bumper or grille.

It's the same class of task as object removal, but the interface and presets are tailored to the rectangular plate on a car. Don't confuse it with image-blur-face services or pixelating sensitive data. Here the goal is natural filling.

When you need this

  • Listings on OLX, RST, Autoria, and other marketplaces.
  • Detailing portfolio / before-and-after shots without identifying the car.
  • Dealership marketing photos without customers' plates.

How to draw the mask

The plate is almost always rectangular: cover it entirely, including the white or black frame. A slight overlap onto the bumper around the edges gives LaMa color context. Don't extend the mask onto headlights, fog lights, or the grille more than necessary.

If the plate is at an angle (three-quarter view), draw along the plate's perspective quadrilateral, not a "random rectangle".

Frequently asked questions

Is this blurring or pixelating the license plate?
No. This is erasing with AI fill (erase + fill). Instead of a plate, you get a continuation of the bumper or grille. Don't confuse it with blur/pixelation services for sensitive areas. Here the goal is natural filling for listings.
How is it different from image-blur-face and similar tools?
Blur services deliberately leave a visible "censorship" patch. Here the plate disappears without a gray rectangle: LaMa matches the color and texture of the bumper. For legal anonymization, an explicit blur is sometimes needed instead. Choose the tool for the task.
The plate is reflected on a wet grille or in glass
Paint over the readable reflection separately, since that's a second mask. Otherwise, after removing the plate, the reflected digits may remain and reveal the number. If the result isn't perfect the first time, refine the mask while zoomed in and repeat with a short pass.
How do I properly cover a plate at an angle (three-quarter view)?
Draw along the plate's perspective contour, including the frame, with a slight margin around the bumper. Don't extend the mask onto the headlights and fog lights more than necessary.
Which image formats are supported?
PNG, JPEG, WebP, and other formats the browser can open are accepted (usually BMP and GIF too). The result is always saved as PNG to avoid re-compressing with JPEG after retouching and to preserve the edges after inpainting without extra compression artifacts.
Where is my image processed and is it stored?
You draw the mask locally in the browser. Inpainting (the LaMa neural network or classic OpenCV) runs on the filltools.com server only to process your request. The file isn't published in the gallery and isn't meant to be shown to other users after the session ends. Don't upload unnecessary personal data.
Legal restrictions on use
Use it for your own listings, detailing portfolios, or materials where hiding the plate is appropriate. Don't use the tool to conceal evidence of offenses or to mislead about vehicle identification in violation of the law.
Can I undo a mistaken step?
Yes. The Undo and Redo buttons keep a history of the mask and results (roughly up to 20 steps in the current browser session). "Reset mask" clears only the red markings on the canvas; "Reset" returns the tool entirely to the state with no uploaded image.
